Beach Brews

What’s new, people?! I hope that you are having a great week! Not to brag, but this week has been great for me.

I took a random day off yesterday and it felt so good. I finally went to the beach and went to all of the best spots in New Smyrna Beach.

Our first stop was (of course) the actual beach.

I brought some 21st Amendment Blood Orange IPA with me and it was so good! Very hoppy, but you can also taste the blood orange as well. It also doesn’t taste like it, but the beer ABV is 7%! It was very easy to drink in the sun. Between trying this, the Shipyard Blood Orange, and the Funky Buddha one, I have to say Funky Buddha is my favorite. This 21st Amendment IPA is a close second.

After spending a few hour at the beach and being chased by a wasp (was not fun), my friend, sister, and I went to Yellow Dog Eats for lunch.

It was so good!

I had a sandwich with pulled pork, barbecue sauce, coleslaw, and pickles. I paired it with the Unholy Trippel from Coppertail. It was delicious. If you are ever in the New Smyrna Beach area, I highly recommend this place! They have a really good selection of beer and wine.

The Unholy Trippel was not bad, either. I really liked the flavor. It also had a hint of a sour taste and was a whopping 9.5%!

After we ate, we went next door to New Smyrna Beach Brewing. I had been waiting all day to get there! I love trying out new breweries, especially at the beach I grew up at.

This brewery is not directly on the beach, but it is only a couple of blocks away.

They had about 16 beers on tap. A couple were from Funky Buddha and Cigar City, but most of the brews were their own concoction.

Even though I went there to try THEIR beers, I couldn’t help myself when I saw the Funky Buddha Sticky Treats. I caved.

YOU GUYS. It was so good! It tasted more like Rice Krispies, but without the marshmallow and sweetness. It is a blonde ale with an ABV of 5.1%. Blonde ales are some of my favorites to drink, and this one was pretty good. It is from a small batch launched in July and I MUST get my hands on it from somewhere before it disappears. If you have any of these bottles PLEASE let me know, I am dying to get my hands on more of it.

The brewery itself was a cool place. Rustic and smelled of barley and grass.

NSB4NSB6NSB7NSB8I tried the Shark Attack IPA, If You’re Not First, You’re Last Golden Ale, and the Beach Bum Brown Ale. I also tried the Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, but it was a little too nutty for me.

I ended up taking home a growler of the Beach Bum Brown Ale. It was similar to the porter, but had more of the ale taste I was looking for. It was a little smoother and easier to drink as well.

P.S. The growler bottle is surely a keeper.

32 oz. of delicious brown ale. MMmmmmmMMmmmm!

After all of that, we went to Frozen Gold. If you don’t know what Frozen Gold is, I feel sorry for you. It is the most delicious ice cream you can get when you are coming back from a hot day in the sun. You come as you are, with sand and salt all over your skin, choose from different ice cream or soft serve, sundaes, cones… I usually get a soft serve of either vanilla or chocolate with sprinkles.

It really is “Frozen Gold.” It’s tradition. You will always find the locals here on hot summer afternoons.

I so enjoy visiting places from my childhood. I am also so happy that New Smyrna has a brewery! I can’t wait to see what brews they’ll come up with next.

As always, thank you for visiting! Until next time! 🙂
