This weekend I decided to try something a little different. I have seen several breweries offer a yoga class with the inclusion of a beer on tap afterwards, but I never thought to join in.
Red Cypress, a brewery here in Orlando, usually has “Namaste” once a week on Sundays. A one hour yoga session that includes a beer.
I have never tried yoga before. Ever. I am the least flexible person. On the spectrum, there are highly flexible people, or pretzels, at one end, and then there is me. Stiff as a 2 x 4.
My friend convinced me to go to this hour long torture session–it was just $10 AND it included a beer after class. Why not? (You cannot get me to do yoga–unless there is beer involved.)
The yoga part really wasn’t that bad. Actually, I really enjoyed it. It’s a class for people of all levels and walks of life. I am the most beginning beginner of yoga, and I felt like it was a success. My muscles have definitely been sore since Sunday. I must have done something right, right?
What is really cool about it is that they hold the class in the actual brewery! So I got to be all bendy and twisted while looking at all of the barrels and tanks of beer. Very cool! String lights were hanging overhead and gave the room a nice soft, relaxing glow. With each inhale, I could smell all of the grains and byproducts that typically come from brewing. Unless you’re a total beer fanatic, it’s not the greatest smell, but it’s one you can appreciate.
I would definitely do this again. It is such an awesome idea and it could potentially get those who don’t really drink beer to try new things! It gives beer lovers like me an incentive–work out, drink a beer. It always feels good to earn your beer, too.
Pictured here is their Berliner, Kwik-E. I will say, it does smell and somewhat taste like buttered popcorn (probably coming from the diacetyl) and I am not sure if that is intentional or not. This is a nice sour and the color is absolutely stunning. It was a nice refreshment after a good work out!
I hope this inspires you to try something new, whether it be a beer, new hobby, or even makes you consider trying yoga. You’ll never know how much you like something until you give it a go!
